Fulfilling Rapido Requests with Locally Available Physical Items

When a patron submits a blank Resource Sharing Request Form in Rapido, Rapido will usually identify a requested title that we own locally and mark the request with a Local Holding status. However, this does not happen in every case.

Staff should review requests submitted through the blank form and verify whether the requested title is available in our local collection before sending the request to external partners.

If you determine that we own the title locally and the patron needs the physical item, follow the steps below to create a local request for the patron and close the Rapido borrowing request.

Step 1: Confirm the Item is Available Locally

Navigate to the Rapido borrowing request. Click the row ellipsis () and select View Local Resources. Confirm that we own a local copy and that the item is available to request.

Step 2: Create a Local Request for the Patron

From View Local Resources, locate the appropriate title/item and click Request from the title action menu. This allows you to place a local physical item request on behalf of the patron.

Step 3: Cancel the Rapido Borrowing Request

A Patron Physical Item Request will be created for the patron. On the confirmation page, select the checkbox for Cancel Resource Sharing Borrowing Request.

Important: Be sure to select this option. It closes the Rapido/ILL borrowing request so that the request is not also sent to external lending partners.

Step 4: Submit the Request

Click Submit to complete the request. The local copy will then follow the normal fulfillment workflow and be routed to the patron’s designated pickup location.

By following this process, we can fulfill the patron’s request from our own collection while avoiding an unnecessary external Resource Sharing request.
