951 Cataloging codes (short version)

To ensure that cataloging statistics are captured in Alma Analytics, use the following codes in the 951 field in bibliographic records once an item has been cataloged. This should take the following form:

951  _ _  $$a [cataloging code from the list below];[cataloger initials*];[date in the form MMYYYY]. Example: oc;pw;052024

FOR NEWLY CATALOGED ITEMS:

  • oc: Original cataloging (non-PCC)
  • ai: Local input, never added to OCLC
  • rc: Retrospective conversion (non-PCC)
  • le: LC copy, enhanced on OCLC (non-PCC)
  • lu: LC copy, used unchanged
  • lm: LC copy, modified locally (but not enhanced on OCLC)
  • me: Member copy, enhanced on OCLC (non-PCC)
  • mu: Member copy, used unchanged
  • mm: Member copy, modified locally (but not enhanced on OCLC)
  • ve: Provisional vendor-supplied record enhanced on OCLC (non-PCC)
  • po: Original full-level PCC record
  • pc: Original core-level PCC record
  • pm: Non-PCC member record upgraded to full-level PCC
  • px: Non-PCC member record upgraded to core-level PCC
  • pu: Core-level PCC record upgraded to full-level PCC
  • pv: Provisional vendor record upgraded to full-level PCC
  • pz: Provisional vendor record upgraded to core-level PCC
  • co: Original full-level CONSER record
  • ce: CONSER record enhanced on OCLC
  • cm: Non-CONSER record enhanced on OCLC

FOR RECATALOGED ITEMS

Note the following should be entered at the beginning of the 951 field and followed with a semicolon if other data is also present. (Example: re;zb;022024;le;sas;032016)

  • rr: Recataloging locally, no extra OCLC work
  • re: Recataloging w/ enhance/upgrade/enrich on OCLC (non-PCC, non-CONSER)
  • rm: Recataloging w/ upgrading of a non-PCC member record to full-level PCC
  • rx: Recataloging w/ upgrading of a non-PCC member record to core-level PCC
  • ru: Recataloging w/ upgrading of a core-level PCC record to full-level PCC
  • rs: Recataloging w/ enhancing of a CONSER serial record
  • rn: Recataloging w/ enhancing of a non-CONSER serial record

NOTE: LC copy includes PCC full-level copy and LCcopycat.

*Cataloger initials must be unique to the cataloger to prevent muddling the statistics. Consult with library cataloging staff to ensure that your desired initials really are unique. Current and historical cataloger initial documentation can be found here.
