Merged courses

For courses that have been merged in BrightSpace, there are a few extra steps that must be taken in Alma for it to work correctly and map to the reading list. First, we need to be sure to get the correct Course ID Code from BrightSpace. This can be achieved by contacting PSI for a listing of courses that have been merged.

Second, in Alma, there needs to be a matching Course Code ID that matches the one from BrightSpace. It is recommended to use one of the unmerged courses listed in Alma, choose “Duplicate”. Then in the form that pops up, the Code: field needs to be the exact same code as what is found in BrightSpace. For the Name: field, remove “Copy of ” and add the appropriate section numbers. Change number of participants to 0. Then click Save.

Third, also in Alma, search by Reading Lists by the course code ID minus the sections. Example:

2024F.HB2.BUS.1600

Using the first entry, change the Code to the same as the one from BrightSpace. Example:

2024F.HB2.BUS.1600.03.04.MERGE

Edit the name to include all sections. Then at the bottom, under the Courses tab, link to all courses. In the example above, that would be 2024F.HB2.BUS.1600.03 and 2024F.HB2.BUS.1600.04. Click Save. Then PURGE the unneeded reading list. In the example above, that would be 2024F.HB2.BUS.1600.04.

By doing the steps above, we 1) make sure the BrightSpace code matches the Course Code and the Reading List; and 2) makes sure only students enrolled in the courses are allowed to access the course materials included in the reading list. This has to be done each semester.
